Gilgit-Baltistan remains a priority of PML-N government: Ch. Muhammad Barjees Tahir


Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ch Muhammad Barjees Tahir has shown his displeasure over delay in various developments projects of Gilgit-Baltistan which were desired by Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif during his visit to Gilgit in December 2013. Federal Minister said that Gilgit-Baltistan was the priority of the present government despite a different political party ruling in the region. PML-N government in Islamabad wanted Gilgit-Baltistan a model territory full of prosperity. Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif wanted Gilgit-Baltistan a hub of international trade and tourism and that construction of Gwadar Kashghar economic corridor was one of the steps in this regard. He was chairing a high level held in Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan. Representatives of various Federal and Provincial departments including NHA, aviation division, National Police Bureau, GB tourism department and GB health department attended the meeting.
Agenda of the meeting was increasing number of PIA flights to Gilgit-Baltistan, construction of Babusar tunnel, establishment of 200 bedded cardiac hospital in Gilgit, establishment of a tourist resort along Attaabad lake and raising a 1500 strong special security force to guard Karokaram Highway. A committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Tahir Raza Naqvi, Additional Secretary Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan. Task of the committee is to  make recommendations for raising this force.
