Federal Minister for KA & GB Ch. Muhammad Barjees Tahir said Gilgit to promote Tourism

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Ch. Muhammad Berjees Tahir tuesday said that more hotels and rest houses would be built here to promote tourism. Speaking at the 'Silk Route Festival' he said that tourism plays key role in the promotion of culture and traidtions of an area, besides strentheing national econlomy. Ch. Muhammad Berjees Tahir urged the foreign investors to take advantage of the lucrative investiment opportunities existing in toruism, Information Technology and energy sectors. The governent, he added, was taking steps for security of foreign investors. He said Pakistanis, and specially the people of Gilgit Baltistan were peaceful and caring and added, the federal government would bear all the expenses for organizastion of the 'Silk Route Festival' next year. Ch. Muhammad Berjees Tahir congratulated the provincial goverment and organizers for successfully organizing the Silk Route Festival and said it highlighted the cultural traditions of Gilgit Baltistan and Pakistan. A large number of artists are taking part in the three-day mega cultural event, aimed at attracting international tourists to the regions. Earlier, in the meeting, the KPK Chief Minister was told that the private sector has offered to set up gas-run power houses with electricity generation capacity of 200-250 mega watt in Kohat and Nowshera in view of the sufficient availability of natural gas in the province. The Chief Minister hinted at providing 70-80 MMCFD gas to the power houses as cheap electricity would cater to the needs of factories in the nearby industrial estates. The handout said the private sector offered to the provincial goverment that it would establish power plants to generate electricity from waste.
