Karakoram Highway has been opened for general traffic today on Thursday

 Karakoram Highway has been opened for general traffic today on Thursday owing to special efforts which, Chaudhary Muhammad Barjees Tahir, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan, has rendered for its reopening. Now the traffic on Karakoram Highway has started. Ch Muhammad Barjees Tahir has directed Gilgit-Baltistan government to make coordination mechanism for the security of commuters on this Highway and that they must leave no stone unturned to ensure the security. Special endeavours on the part of the Ministry and the provincial governments have ultimately brought about reopening of the strategically important road. KKH had been closed for general traffic due to security reasons after Rawalpindi incident.
           
Ch. Muhammad Barjees Tahir has appealed the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtun Khawa to observe interfaith harmony to foil the intentions of miscreants and to help the government fighting such elements. Karakoram Highway is not only the sole mean of traveling but also the only way of transportation of goods to the people of the area. He said that Federal Government, by the help of provincial governments, is trying to ensure fool-proof security of the region by raising a specialized company of Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts. He said that funds have already been issued for this purpose and force will come into existence within a few months. By the constructions of Pak-China economic corridor and proposed dams, this Highway will acquire high importance. He said that things are already on the radar of the government regarding future development and that a zoo personal strong force is proposed. Economic corridor project will bring prosperity in the area
