December 04, 2013

Chaudhary Muhammad Barjees Tahir, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan has said that brazen attack on freedom of expression and freedom of journalism is unacceptable and incites utmost condemnation. He said while talking to a Group of Journalists in Islamabad.
2.         He said that he believed in freedom of expression and freedom of journalism and that their government would put all the available resources in place to ensure the safety of the journalists. Journalists have rendered scores of sacrifices to uphold the cause of the journalism which is remarkable. General conditions for freedom of journalism in Pakistan are relatively better in our country. It is very unfortunate that a handful of mischievous elements are bent upon getting on their freedom.
3.         “during autocratic regime of Musharraf some media houses faced similar assaults and others had to face the shutdown but journalists never gave up their cause” He said. Journalists rendered marvelous services in restoration of judiciary and democracy. He particularly condemned the attack on Express Media Group’s Building in Karachi. He emphasized that concerned authorities should appropriate the culprits under the law of land.
