Nobody is Sacred Cow in AJK, Everyone to Pay Tax in AJK: Ch. Muhammad Barjees Tahir

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgig-Baltistan, Ch Muhammad Barjees Tahir has showed his dissatisfaction over the performance of AJK Income Tax Department in current financial year. He question marked the performance of said department to meet their targets despite Ministry had adopted a policy of no interference in department’s affairs. He said that tax evasion had become a fashion not only in Pakistan but also in AJK. He said this while chairing a meeting to review the performance of AJK Income Tax Department. Briefing was given by Commissioner Income Tax Mirpur. Federal Secretary Shahidullah Baig, Additional Secretary Tahir Raza Naqvi and Joint Secretary Tahir Hussain were also present in the briefing. Federal Minister directed Inland Revenue Service to collect Income Tax from everyone sparing nobody. He said that nobody was Sacred Cow and everybody was subjected to pay his share of tax. He directed Ministry officials to take legal action against big tax evaders and asked to write to Ministry of Finance to deduct their tax at source. Although Inland Revenue Department of AJK failed to meet its targets yet their collections were 21% up by last year’s receipts. New target for the current year was set 39% higher than last year’s revenues.
