Mr.Qamar Zaman Kaira , Advisor to Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan

Mr. Qamar Zaman Kaira is a senior politician of Pakistan People's Party (PPP). He started his political career as President of a student union in 1970’s. Being an eloquent speaker and a social worker, he became Nazim of Union Council in Gujrat in 2001 and was elected twice from Lalamusa (Gujrat) as a member of National Assembly in general elections of 2002 and 2008.

He remained Chairman Standing Committee of States and Frontier Region Division from 2002- 2007. He served the nation as Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting twice with additional portfolios of Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas, Ports and Shipping, IT & Communication and Chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme during the period 2008 to 2013. He also served as the acting Governor of Gilgit Baltistan in 2009. The party leadership designated him as President of Pakistan People's Party (Central Punjab) in 2013 for a period of five years.

Qamar Zaman Kaira proved his mettle on every assignment. He has always been a staunch advocate of democracy and stood for freedom of speech in his entire political career. He is recognized as one of the most capable and mature politicians of Pakistan.

He hails from LalaMusa and got his early education from LalaMusa. He is masters in Philosophy from the University of the Punjab, Lahore.
